LabTec CS - Mission

Laboratories of Technology with and for Social Sciences - Vision

Guided by Social Sciences perspectives, to identify, research, develop and test Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) serving the public interest and driven by those interests, including the impacts of such ICTs and its dissemination processes:

  • Promoting the Academia-Society Link with respect to technology, in a wide view: since Society is not just the corporate or industrial world, it is also the public administration, the civil society (NGO's, groups of citizens), and it is also important to support good government and good governance;

  • To fill in for market faillures: instead of technology (ICT) development only market-driven, this should be guided by social needs (in particular to quell exclusion and inequity, and more), which implies to know how to identify and characterize such needs;

  • To seek the optimization of Social Capital returns, and not only financial capital returns.

Mission at ISCSP - the Challenge:

  1. To create a new scientific domain (e-Planning) in response to these new challenges (with transversal, cross-cutting support to all social science domains present at ISCSP).

  2. To promote the quality of advanced research at ISCSP.

  3. To widen ISCSP connection with national and international Networks of Excelence.
